An Alliance Doctrine:
"All that is needed for health and healing has been provided in nature; the challenge of community is to harness it."
What we do
Community Parks Alliance creates innovative and collaborative approaches to the study, planning, design, construction, operations and management of greenways and parks in communities. The Alliance partners with other stakeholders and agencies, engages private sector collaborators and communicates findings to land managers, policymakers, teachers, students, and the public. We facilitate implementation. We advocate for the expansion of parks and greenspaces which enhance community quality of life, health, wellness and education.
Our focus is on the community of San Diego and Southern California where there is community support for parks, recreation and outdoor events; an interest in community health and welfare; support but limited funding for innovative hands-on parks alliances, ecologic preservation and natural resource education; and an awareness of the economic benefits of recreational tourism.
We will partner with both established non-profit organizations in San Diego County, with for-profit healthcare institutions, with K-12 schools and higher education programs in the San Diego community and with the local communities.
As a 501(c)3 public benefit corporation, The Alliance relies upon donations and support from the community for its general operations as well as grants, both public and private. The resources to start The Alliance are donated in-kind services. The objective is first to pursue grants to document existing conditions and needs. Once conditions are identified, a needs-assessment will be conducted and documented. Outreach will include publication of findings, community outreach and public presentations. Partners and collaborators will be identified, opportunities will be prioritized, and partnerships can be formed and campaigns developed to address unmet needs.
