Photo credit: Steve Barilotti If measured in weeds pulled, trash picked, sidewalks swept, dumpsters filled, and gallons of sweat per hour, the first official cleanup effort at Pacific View School in Encinitas was a raging success.
More than 30 volunteers showed up August 13 to get hands-on, and certainly hands dirty, during the four-hour event.
Led by CPA Executive Director Joy Lyndes and Encinitas Arts Culture and Ecology Alliance President Garth Murphy, the volunteers included a San Diego County supervisor, three Encinitas city council members, and a former Encinitas mayor.
Cleanup is the first step in Encinitas Arts Culture and Ecology Alliance's efforts to revitalize the school and its property, closed since 2003, and reopen the campus as a visual, cultural, and intellectual arts and ecology learning center.
Brad Roth of the Cottonwood Creek Conservancy organized the event's tasks. The work party combed the perimeter of the school’s 2.87-acre site, removing a dumpster’s worth of weeds, accumulated trash, and rubble. Learn more about Pacific View at http://www.eacea.org
